Fans who were desperately craving a return to Middle Earth (or who were curious about the higher frame rate) poured into theaters this past weekend to check out ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’. If you were one of those fans, did you also happen to catch Peter Jackson’s cameo in the film?

Ever since ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’, Jackson has been making a small appearance onscreen in each of his ‘Lord of the Rings’ film, so naturally he’d make a cameo in the new trilogy as well. In an interview with Empire, the director revealed that he could be seen in Erebor as one of the dwarves engaged in battle. Not that there were many options. As Jackson himself says, “There weren’t any human characters in this film, and there weren’t any hobbit roles I could play… and I’m not an elf.” Check out the full clip below in which he speaks on his time as a dwarf:

Since all the dwarves in that scene are wearing helmets and armor (and most have beards), it’s very hard to tell which one is the man behind the camera if you didn’t know where to look.

Did you spot Peter Jackson in that battle in Erebor? Are you going to keep your eyes peeled during your inevitable next visit? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
