Back in 2010, Tim Burton essentially started the trend of live action reimaginings of fantasies and fairy tales with ‘Alice In Wonderland’. After that movie made over $1 billion worldwide and earned a few Oscars, movies like ‘Mirror Mirror’ and ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, and TV shows such as ‘Once Upon A Time’ and ‘Grimm’ popped up and thrived. Now, after surprisingly waiting a while, Disney is finally going back to Wonderland for a sequel to the semi-sequel to their animated classic 1951 film.
According to Variety, the House of Mouse has tapped Linda Woolverton, who also wrote the first installment for Burton, to work on the script for ‘Alice In Wonderland 2’. A mainstay of Disney’s, the writer has penned her fair share of classics for the studio such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘The Lion King’, as well as the upcoming ‘Sleeping Beauty’ prequel ‘Maleficent’ starring Angelina Jolie.
No details on what the sequel will be about or when it’ll begin production have been released just yet. Additionally, it hasn’t been revealed if director Burton or his stars like Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp would be returning, but I’m sure all of that will fall into place once the script comes together.
