Frak, it’s really true! The long awaited premiere date of ‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome’ has finally been set and fans can now watch the two hour pilot three different ways: as a web series, on the Syfy channel and at home. And to get fans excited about the pilot, a new trailer has been released!
The first opportunity to see the ‘BSG: Blood and Chrome’ will be Friday, November 9th, as a web-series exclusively on Machinima Prime’s YouTube channel. The pilot will be broken up into ten 7-12 minute episodes with new episodes airing until February 2013.
If watching snippets are not your thing, then you’ll have to wait until after February when Syfy will air the entire pilot as a 2 hour movie. Unfortunately, the network has not set a specific air date for when the episode will be seen. Soon after, Syfy will be releasing an unrated version of the show on Blue-ray, DVD, digital download, PPV and VOD. As for the webisodes, they will continue to play through April 2013.
“With its top-notch storytelling, pulse-pounding action, and cutting-edge visual effects, ‘Blood & Chrome’ is the perfect extension of the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ universe,” said Mark Stern, President, Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head, Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. “We are thrilled to see this hotly-anticipated event premiere on Machinima, an online network that is unparalleled in its delivery of high-class digital content to millions of viewers.”
It’s been almost 2 years since the pilot has been filmed and over a year since the Syfy network announced that they were considering releasing ‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome’ as a web-series. Although the network is still not planning on continuing this project as a series, the project did hold a lot of promise with the amount of ‘BSG’ veterans behind the scenes. David Eick and Michael Taylor were executive producing (the duo was also executive producers on ‘BSG’ and ‘Caprica’) with the pilot written by Taylor and based on a story by Eick, Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. Jonas Pate, who also directed on ‘Caprica’ and ‘Battlestar Galactica’, directed the episode.
‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome’ is set to take place between the timelines of ‘Caprica’ and ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and follows a young William Adam as he begins his journey in the Colonial fleet during the first Cylon War.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome” takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly find himself at odds with Coker (Ben Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.
Joining Pasqualino and Cotton in the cast is Lili Bordan, who will play Dr. Beka Kelly, a Ph.D. who worked for Graystone Industries that created the Cylon robots. Currently assigned to a secret military mission, Beka and Adama quickly establish a rapport.
