Frank Grillo

Steve Rogers will have his hands full in his next onscreen tale because one of the Red Skull’s most feared henchmen is coming out of the rogues’ gallery and into a theater near you in 2014. According to Geek Tyrant, ‘Warrior’ and ‘The Grey’ actor Frank Grillo has been confirmed to play Crossbones in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’.

Last week, this casting news was hinted at through some tweets that were quickly deleted, but the talks continued off Twitter and it seems like Grillo had indeed landed the role.

Brock Rumlow is one of the most deadly mercenaries in the Marvel Universe. Though he has no powers (like Hawkeye or Black Widow), he studied under the Taskmaster and then eventually joined forces with the Red Skull, who gave him the codename Crossbones, and the tyrant’s daughter, Sin. The assassin has had many battles with the likes of Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Captain America, but his claim to fame is his role in the assassination of the Star Spangled Avenger during the landmark storyline ‘Civil War’.

It’s a bit too early to even think about the assassination of Captain America coming up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so I’m curious to see what role the villain will play in Anthony & Joe Russo’s Cap sequel.

Not only will Frank Grillo be joining Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, and Anthony Mackie in the upcoming film, but it was also revealed that Cobie Smulders would be reprising her role as Maria Hill because S.H.I.E.L.D. is reportedly going to play a bigger role in ‘The Winter Soldier’, which has been described as a “political thriller”. I hope Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as the Black Widow as well because I’ve always loved her character’s interactions with Bucky/Winter Soldier.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ will be released on April 4, 2014.
