Normally it’s taboo to be talking in the theater while watching a movie, but what if it was the director that was speaking to you? More specifically, what if it was Rian Johnson giving you your own personal commentary of his latest film ‘Looper‘? Well, you can actually have that experience as Johnson has released a special movie theater commentary track for the Bruce Willis/Joseph Gordon Levitt time travelling action thriller.

Johnson actually did something similar with his last film ‘The Brothers Bloom’, but not as many people saw that film as compared to ‘Looper’. So by popular demand, the director decided to do the same with his most recent release and record a commentary that movies goers could download onto an mp3 player and listen to him discuss plot points and technical details.

The commentary was released on the Looper tumbler account and really should be listened to after you’ve seen the movie at least once. As Johnson explains:

I recorded a commentary track to be downloaded, put on an ipod and listened to in the theater as you’re watching Looper.  This is an odd thing I tried with Bloom, and have gotten a few requests for it again, so here it is.  It is totally different from the commentary track that will be on the Blu/DVD, a bit more technical and detailed.

Needless to say, this is NOT to be listened to on a first viewing, or before you’ve seen the film.  Also, please work it so that a glowing screening is never out of your pocket during the movie.

Listen to the introduction before heading to the theater, it has instructions.  And lemme know how it works.

What’s fascinating is that this commentary will be different than the one on the Blue-ray/DVD released so he obviously has a lot to say about the movie.

‘Looper’ is still playing in theaters so if you’d like, you can download the commentary track below for your own listening pleasure. And don’t be surprised if you see other people in the movie theaters with their ear buds on also!
