If you ever needed to look up the definition of “downward spiral”, you wouldn’t need to look any further than M. Night Shyamalan’s IMDB page. After ‘The Sixth Sense’ and ‘Unbreakable’, the director’s films just got worse and worse. I’ll give the man credit though because he’s stuck with filmmaking despite his many detractors for his pretty terrible filmography (especially ‘The Happening’). And now it seems like he’ll be trying to switch things up a bit in order to find success yet again with a camera.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (via/Film), Shyamalan has been given a put-pilot commitment at SyFy for his new drama series titled ‘Proof’. What that means is basically the show will go to series, so we’ll see at least see one season of this show, unless the network wants to pay some steep penalties. Based on an original idea from the man himself, the show will follow the orphaned son of a billionaire who offers a reward for proof of life after death.
Not going into this venture onto the small screen alone, the director is bringing on former ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ showrunner Marti Noxon. Both are set to co-write ‘Proof’ and executive produce alongside Ashwin Rajan of Blinding Eagle.
The premise doesn’t sound too bad. I’m actually pretty intrigued by it. But knowing M. Night’s style, I’ll bet there’s a pretty big twist in there somewhere. My money is on the twist being the son is actually the one who died instead of the parents.
