Back in February, ‘Kick-Ass’ creator Mark Millar said that the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation would begin production this summer, but here we are with the end of summer fast approaching and no ‘Kick-Ass 2’ on our radar yet. Well, at Comic-Con, Red Mist himself Christopher Mintz-Plasse revealed that production would actually begin in September and it seems like the ball is now rolling for the fall start.
Deadline is reporting that casting has begun on the tentatively titled ‘Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall’ and the first name to join the production is funny man John Leguizamo. The actor is best known for some of his more comedic roles such as ‘Ice Age’, ‘To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar’, and ‘Super Mario Bros.’ (which was funny for all the wrong reasons), but he’s also shown his versatility by playing Tybalt in ‘Romeo + Juliet’, Benny Blanco in ‘Carlito’s Way’ and Toulouse-Lautrec in ‘Moulin Rouge!’. For director/writer Jeff Wadlow, who will be taking the reins from Vaughn, Leguizamo is set to play Red Mist’s bodyguard, Javier. Previously, there were talks about Mist having another bodyguard in the form of the imposing Mother Russia, so the villain must be up to some big things to have such muscle around him at all times. That, or he’s not looking to get his ass kicked by Kick-Ass.
According to the report, stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are returning to reprise their roles, but it also lists another returning name: Nicolas Cage. Did Wadlow not get the memo about what happened to Big Daddy? Maybe there will be some flashbacks or something. Regardless, ‘Kick-Ass 2’ is really starting to take shape.
