After we discovered the new name for Thor’s next big screen outing at Comic-Con, speculation went wild as to what ‘The Dark World’ could be referring to. Then, last week, a stuntman spilled the beans on the potential enemies the Thunderer would be facing. Now, based on a casting call and a shooting location, we’re armed with more evidence for our developing theories about the next Thor movie.
A while back, I speculated that Mads Mikkelsen would be playing the fire demon known as Surtur. Then, once it was revealed that the villains might be the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, it was assumed that Mikkelsen would have played their leader, Malekith the Accursed if the actor had stayed around. However, that doesn’t mean that the demon is entirely out of the picture. According to a report from Comic Book Movie, a casting call recently went out asking for “Men of Fire”. Here’s the full description:
For a new Marvel Super Hero feature film we are looking for men who are skilled in playing with fire to pretend to be warriors.
The Requirements: You must be highly skilled with playing with fire example skills include – Spinning, Fire Sticks, Fire Breathing, Fire eating, etc.
The Dark Elves aren’t really known to use fire in battle, but the Fire Demons of Muspelheim, the realm of eternal fire, and their ruler Surtur are. Could Thor be venturing to many other realms besides Asgard and Midgard to face foes?
In the second bit of Thor related news today, Bleeding Cool uncovered that a lot of filming for ‘Thor: The Dark World’ would be taking place in long tunnels beneath London, in addition to the nearby sound stages. So far, there’s no word on where exactly in the realms these tunnels will be, but the Dark Elves have been known to dwell in caves and caverns, so maybe Svartalfheim will come to life beneath the city. Or maybe the elves will actually show up under the cities of Earth. I suppose your guess is as good as mine at this point.
‘Thor: The Dark World’, directed by Alan Taylor of ‘Game of Thrones’ fame, starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, and Anthony Hopkins, is scheduled for release on November 8, 2013.
