If 2012 was the year of the dueling Snow Whites (‘Mirror, Mirror’ vs. ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’), then 2014 may be the year of the dueling Sleeping Beauties. Looks like Princess Aurora will also have a comedic turn on the big screen much like her Snow White counterpart.

According to THR, Neal Moritz is developing a modern day comedic retelling of the golden haired Aurora and turning her from the slumbering sweet princess we all grew up with to a determined infatuated stalker. In the film, the “male protagonist” accidently wakes Sleeping Beauty and then finds he can’t get the lovesick maiden out of his life.

The project is being developed internally by Moritz’s Original Film company and is being penned by Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller. Currently there is no studio attached to the film for distribution.

Moritz is more widely known for producing action packed films such as ‘The Fast and Furious’ franchise, ‘Total Recall,’ ‘Battle Los Angeles’ and ‘I am Legend’ and has had some hit and misses with comedic films like ‘The Change Up’ and the highly successful ’21 Jump Street’ (however ‘The Green Hornet’ was definitely on the big miss list!).

No word yet on who will be directing, who they’re considering for the lead or when the movie will hit theaters but hopefully Moritz and company will have learned a thing or two from the last lackluster comedic fairy tale film that was released earlier this year.

So far it looks like ‘Maleficent’ has the odds on this smackdown.
