If the recent release of posters, TV spots, viral materials and trailers haven’t been enough, Warner Bros. has now unveiled a new 13 minute behind the scenes featurette for ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’
If you’ve been wanting to see the movie untainted with any prior information about the film or even any more information that has already been revealed, then it’s best to skip this featurette. While really not very spoilery, it does have some new images not seen in previous promotional material. What makes this featurette stand out are the interviews with the cast and crew particularly when they speak of the motivation behind certain scenes and the characters.
Christopher Nolan set out to give this superhero film a realism not seen in other superhero movies. The featurette emphasizes the serious tones of a city in turmoil and a man who doesn’t seem to have a place. Unlike the wise-cracking campiness of ‘The Avengers,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ tone is dark and gritty and Nolan is meticulous in his work down to the infrastructure of the sets.
In an interview with the L.A. Times, Nolan says of his take:
“We really wanted a cast of thousands, literally, and all of that for me is trying to represent the world in primarily visual and architectural terms. So the thematic idea is that the superficial positivity is being eaten away from underneath; we tried to make that quite literal.”
The countdown continues as we are only 2 weeks away from the premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and what may be a surprising and/or shocking conclusion to the Dark Knight trilogy.
