A few weeks ago, we started hearing rumblings that the unannounced 2014 movie on the Marvel slate was ‘Black Panther’. As soon as this announcement was made, fans began speculating on what actor would fit the role of T’Challa, the Prince of Wakanda, and legendary superhero.
In the past, several big-name stars, including Wesley Snipes (‘Blade’), have expressed interest in the Black Panther role. Now, according to ComicBookMovie.com, ‘Leverage’ actor Aldis Hodge has voiced his interest in the character.
The news comes via an interview that Hodge did with The Examiner in which the actor was asked if he favored any particular comic book series. Hodge answered:
Growing up I was a fan of Black Panther and X-Men comic books. I was also a huge Batman fan. There’s recently been a little buzz online about Marvel pushing for Black Panther, and I’ve been in love with the idea for years. I want the fans to know that the one role I really want to play is Black Panther. I grew up loving the Marvel world, and grew up on martial arts. I still train. When Black Panther came around, he was almost like an African American Batman.
Now I don’t know a lot about Hodge since I’ve never watched ‘Leverage’ but he’s apparently good enough to have earned a Saturn Award nod for his role on the show. He definitely looks enough like the comic version of T’Challa that I’d be willing to give him a shot.
What do you think? Will Hodge be a good fit for the role of T’Challa? If not, who would you cast in the role of Black Panther? Voice up in the comment section and let us know.
