News dropped today that Jessica Chastain is in talks to appear in Shane Black’s ‘Iron Man 3’, but she’s not the only name being thrown around today. Also being talked about to join the cast, which apparently already includes Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce, is ‘House of Flying Daggers’ star Andy Lau.
According to Twitch (via CBM), the Chinese backers of ‘Iron Man 3’ want a big Chinese name attached to the movie. Lau is one of Hong Kong’s most commercially successful actors, and he seems to be their top choice.
Here’s a description of the character Lau, or whoever lands the role, would play:
“A good guy – a Chinese scientist who comes to the aid of his old buddy Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) by providing him with some new tech that will help him battle Ben Kingsley’s villain, but more importantly Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) and his Extremis biotechnology.”
For those of you hoping for The Mandarin, you’re out of luck again, my friends. As much as we wish that the master of the 10 rings, it’s unlikely that Shane Black is taking that route. That or he’s keeping really, really quiet about the involvement of one of Iron Man’s greatest foes.
Filming for the first post-‘Avengers’ Marvel movie is kicking off in Wilmington, North Carolina next month and it’ll hit theaters on May 3rd, 2013.
