After months of speculation, Ryan Murphy has decided to let us out of our misery and revealed more details about next season’s ‘American Horror Story.’

First off, Murphy has said that the new location was hinted at in season 1’s episode of ‘Birth.’ He has now confirmed that it will be “set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica (Lange).”  So what was the clue? It was in the scene where psychic Billie Dean (Sarah Paulson) was saging the house and tells Violet that the house had a paramagnetic grip where negative energy/evil collects similar to certain places like prisons or asylums. (All those who had placed bets on this clue can collect your money now.)

In addition, Murphy revealed that the second season will find the cast in a new era, “It’s a completely different world and has nothing to do with Season 1; there’s not a mention of Season 1,” he stated, “The second season is set in a completely different time period.”

The only nod to season 1 will be the return of Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe who Murphy has confirmed would be playing characters opposite from the ones they personified  last year “in every way.” But if you think that they are the only ones from last season who we’ll see at the institution, think again. Murphy teased that there could be more familiar faces popping up next fall but wasn’t any more specific than that.

Other speculations as to whether or not Quinto would be playing someone who was criminally insane or whether we would see a more “revealing” side (i.e. the backside) of Adam Levine was met with a maybe. As for Levine, Murphy comments about the singer now turned actor, “He’s a sexy guy so he needs to play a sexy guy, but the guy that is different than who you think he would play,”

So there you have it. Murphy pretty much sums up season 2 as “fun, sexy and baroque.” More details should start to emerge soon as the producers will be presenting their vision of the next season to FX executives sometime next week.

In the meantime, what time period do you think the second season will occur in? 70’s? 60’s? Who else from season 1 would you like to see return and what do you think of the news so far?

‘American Horror Story’ is slated to return sometime in October on FX.
