With the well of A-list superheroes with their own movies running dry, Marvel has dug deep into their vaults of lesser known allies to bring up another group to save the human race. Earlier, we reported that the first draft of a Doctor Strange movie script has been completed.  Now, according to Twitch, we hear that the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is in active development for their own feature film!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Guardians, they first appeared in their own comic book series from 1969-1994. Consisting of a group of aliens (all the last of their kind from the 31st century) they unite to protect the Earth from reptilian beings called the Badoon. While fighting the Badoon they time travel to the 20th century and team up with Captain America and the Thing. After defeating the Badoon, they moved on to fight the Kovac which led them to team up with the Avengers.

The Guardians were then resurrected in 2008 with new characters and a new look, but still committed to protecting the universe. It received such an enthusiastic reception that the first 2 issues sold out. You will also get to see the Guardians in an upcoming episode of the second season of the ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ animated series. (Maybe this is a way to begin introducing the characters before the movie is released?)

With the obvious tie in to the already successful and lucrative ‘Captain America’ and’ Iron Man’ movies and to the much anticipated ‘Avengers’ movie, it would seem that the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is off to a great start. But is this enough to get the B team accepted like their more famous counterparts? And…is Rocket Racoon going to make an appearance?
