Is the CW Preparing For A Major, Fan-Favorite Cross-Over Event?

Fans of the CW’s superhero programming are no strangers to crossovers, at this point it is almost the main reason to continue to follow the network’s myriad superhero shows, which include’Arrow’ (on its final season), ‘The Flash‘ (poised to take over as the flagship series), ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ ‘Black Lightning,’ and ‘Batwoman‘ (starting its freshmen season). And while they have yet to actually introduce their audience to the CW’s version of Batman, it seems that a lot of fans are currently seeing the signs that the Arrowverse is planning on doing their own version of the ‘World’s Finest’ storyline, which, in the comics, saw Batman and Superman come together to fight some of their greatest adversaries.

In the case of the CW, though they do have a Superman, it looks like they would instead be doing ‘World’s Finest’ with Supergirl and Batwoman, taking full advantage of the heroes of their existing roster for their own spin on the exciting team-up, which they have actually already hinted at during last year’s ‘Elseworlds’ crossover event, where Supergirl met Batwoman for the first time. Though they did not share the screen much, it seemed pretty clear that their relationship was something important, and that the producers were deliberately holding back a bit and focusing more on Barry Allen and Oliver Queen’s interactions with Batwoman for the story, potentially wanting to flesh out Supergirl’s story with Batwoman at a later date.

The biggest hint was pointed out recently by fans on Reddit, who noticed a Twitter advertisement for ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Batwoman’ airing on Sunday nights together that had an image combining the logos of the two heroes (see above), which looked way too polished to simply be advertisement for the two shows airing back to back. Of course, some would say that the CW already did an event called ‘World’s Finest’ back when ‘The Flash’ was still in its early seasons and Barry Allen visited ‘Supergirl’ in her world, but most would agree that was more about cashing in on a familiar name that meant big heroes teaming up, especially since at the time the CW had not yet introduced anyone from the Bat-family, and had barely even hinted at the existence of Gotham City or its denizens.

With ‘Arrow’ coming to an end this season and ‘The Flash’ most likely only having a couple of seasons left, it would make sense to gradually shift focus to ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Batwoman’ as the new flagship DC heroes of the Arrowverse, and a big cross-over event centered around the two of them seems an excellent way to do so.

What are your thoughts on a future ‘World’s Finest’ team up with Supergirl and Batwoman? Do you think this is where the CW is going to go? Feel free to share your own theories and opinions in the comments below!
