Michael Crichton The Andromeda Strain

While author Michael Crichton (‘Jurassic Park‘,’Westworld‘) sadly passed away in 2008, his work boldly lives on and now CrichtonSun LLC in conjunction with HarperCollins will be releasing a sequel to one of his most iconic novels penned by Daniel H. Wilson (‘Robopocalypse’). Specifically, we’re getting a follow up to the 1969 pandemic classic ‘The Andromeda Strain.’ In the new novel titled ‘The Andromeda Evolution,’ we’re getting an official sequel “which depicts the fallout of a deadly alien organism’s unleashing in a small New Mexico town.” However, a full synopsis and further details have yet to be revealed.

Of the upcoming book, Sherri Crichton, who is CEO of CrichtonSun LLC and Crichton’s widow, has shared:

“Michael’s first benchmark novel, The Andromeda Strain, was ahead of its time in both subject matter and how it was presented to the reader. It’s exciting to be shining a spotlight on the world that Michael so brilliantly created and to collaborate with Daniel Wilson. This novel is for Crichton fans; it’s a celebration of Michael’s universe and a way to introduce him to new generations, and to those discovering his worlds for the first time.”

This is not the first time we’ve seen Crichton’s work further expanded upon after his death. There was a manuscript found on his computer titled ‘Pirate Latitudes’ which was released as a novel in 2009, ‘Dragon Teeth’ which was written in 1974 and never released until 2017, as well as an extensive outline for ‘Micro’ which was completed by Richard Preston and released as well. Truly a visionary whose work has been well loved over the years so it should come as no surprise that we’re seeing this book come to life.

Of what he wrote, Wilson has let readers know:

“As a lifelong fan of Michael Crichton, it’s been an unbelievable honor to revisit the iconic world that he created and to continue this adventure. It’s a testament to Crichton’s genius that the originality of The Andromeda Strain is just as exciting and relatable now as it was on the day it was first published.”

‘The Andromeda Strain’ is the first book on pandemics I had ever read and likely a huge motivator as to why I’ve enjoyed stories of that nature ever since. I’ll be sure to be re-reading it and picking this up when it is released!
