New Promo For The Boys Looks Like The Trailer To Literally Anything

Amazon Prime has unveiled a new trailer for Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of the Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson comic series ‘The Boys’.  The series comes from producers Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg (AMC’s ‘Preacher’), and Eric Kripke (‘Supernatural’).  The series stars Karl Urban as badass Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as novice “Wee” Hughie, Karen Fukuhara as The Female, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, and Tomer Capon as Frenchie, as the titular ‘Boys’, a CIA black ops team assigned to keep tabs on the superheroes of the world, who maintain a wholesome image in the public eye, but are hedonistic scumbags when the cameras aren’t around.

The foremost team of superheroes is The Seven, played by Chace Crawford as The Deep; Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve; Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir; Erin Moriarty as Annie January a.k.a. Starlight; Antony Starr as Homelander; and Jessie T. Usher as A-Train.

You can catch glimpses of most of them in the clip below, along with everything you’ve ever seen in any trailer for any gritty drama TV series or movie ever.  Don’t believe me?

The new trailer includes all the Greatest Hits: blood spatter; a police car chase; an upshot of characters opening a trunk; an upshot of characters closing a trunk; someone caressing someone else’s upset face; a mausoleum; a body bag being taken to an ambulance; people gettin’ it on; someone being baptized; a weathered angel statue (presumably in a cemetery); a beat-up baby doll washing up on a shore; a lady seductively unbuttoning her blouse; a badass chick holding a gun (you know she’s a badass because she has a black bob with bangs and wears a lot of eye makeup); a politician or businessman addressing a crowd; and an explosion.  (Wait, no rattlesnake or stripper?!  Boo!)  And it’s all set to some dark, grimy bluesy music complete with gospel-style humming and hand clapping.

So yeah, like every premium cable drama that’s ever been made.  At least toward the end, there are some super people doing super stuff and a dolphin.  And for some reason, a lot of urine.  Don’t believe me?  Click away!

I really enjoyed the comic book.  So hopefully the show is more unique and distinctive than this teaser demonstrates.  Maybe it’ll be like ‘Venom’ where all the trailers sucked, but the actual movie was pretty decent.

Amazon Prime doesn’t have a release date for ‘The Boys’ yet, but it will arrive sometime this summer.
