This week’s episode of The Orville, entitled ‘Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes,’ is the fourth episode of the show’s second season. The short-and-sweet official description, straight from Fox, is as such:

Ed finds himself behind enemy lines when he crash-lands on a mysterious planet. Meanwhile, Kelly questions why Gordon wants to take the Command Test in the all-new “Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes” episode of THE ORVILLE airing Thursday, Jan. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Take a peek at the seven production photos provided by the network below.  Of note:

  • The title of the episode appears to be a reference to the musical The King and I, specifically the song “A Puzzlement” that contains the lyrics about how, if people aren’t able to trust one another, then there will be “nothing left on Earth excepting fishes.”  Given show creator Seth MacFarlane’s love of Broadway, this reference makes a lot of sense.
  • According to info from Fox, Klyden will be back in this episode, whoo-hoo!  He’s my favorite, mostly because I think actor Chad L. Coleman is amazing.
  • Also returning in this episode is Chris Johnson as Cassius, the Orville-based school teacher who is romantically involved with Kelly.  We last saw Cassius in the season premiere episode, ‘Ja’loja.’
  • This episode will reportedly mark the debut for Jessica Szohr and her character, Talla.  Best known from her work on ‘Gossip Girl,’ Szhor’s appearance on the show has been kept largely under wraps, with only a small handful of leaked photos showing us any real glimpse of her physical appearance on the show.  From what we’ve seen and the little we’ve been told, it seems that she will be the new Chief of Security (darn it, was hoping for an extended stay for Thral, the interim Chief of Security introduced last week portrayed by the fabulous Patrick Warburton) and that she is Xeleyan, like the recently-departed Alara (Halston Sage).

‘Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes’ was directed by Jon Cassar but, curiously, Fox has declined to release information on who wrote the episode.
