The Orville

‘The Orville’s’ tough as nails chief security officer, Alara, has officially disembarked. FOX Television has confirmed that Halston Sage has exited the series.

While the network did not cite a reason for her departure, FOX confirmed that ‘Home’ was Halston’s last episode, but that the door would be open for her to return in the future.

‘Home’ followed Sage’s character, Lt. Alara Kitan, as she suffered from the loss of both muscle mass and bone density as a result of the Earth-normal gravity aboard the Orville, compared to the far higher gravity of her home planet, Xeleya. Alara returned to Xelaya to try and reacclimate herself to its gravity.

Dr. Finn devised a treatment that would have allowed Alara to return to the Orville and still regain her strength, but it would have been a painful experience. Alara decided to forgo treatment and instead chose to return to Xelaya and mend her relationship with her family.

The departure of Alara sparked rumors online about what was in store for Sage. She had been working on other projects during the production of the second season of ‘The Orville,’ and the series just added Jessica Szohr as a new series regular. Szohr’s character, Talla, has appeared in set photos as a Xelayan security officer, just like Alara. Obviously, this has led to speculation that Szohr will replace Sage.

The next episode of ‘The Orville,’ called ‘Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes,’ will air this Thursday on FOX.
