The Punisher

With Season 2 of ‘The Punisher’ set to premiere sometime in January 2019 (it is crazy that we are a few hours away from January 1st and we still do not have a premiere date for this), Netflix and Marvel have started the promotional campaign for the second season, which most feel will include an actual trailer very soon as a well as that pesky release date. One of their first moves is a Twitter post with a recap of Season 1 of the series to remind audiences what Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is all about, and everything that he went through in Season 1 to prime you for what he will be dealing with in Season 2, especially in regards to Billy Russo aka Jigsaw (Ben Barnes), who looks like he may be one of the primary antagonists of the hero once again in Season 2.

It is a little bittersweet at this point since we know ‘The Punisher’ will most likely be going out the same way as ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Luke Cage,’ and ‘Iron Fist‘ following the premiere of its second season, and that with the cancellation this MIGHT be the last time we see Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, but hopefully the quality of this season remains as high as Season 1, and the character, as well as the rest of the cast and crew, will go out with a bang. Here’s hoping Season 2 is successful enough that it reminds audiences and the execs at Disney that this Netflix-MCU shows still have a large following, an audience that would most likely be willing to wait a few years for these shows to return, as opposed to rebooting everything and scrapping everything they built in the Netflix corner of the MCU.

Until then, we still have ‘The Punisher’ Season 2 and the grand finale of the Netflix-MCU shows, ‘Jessica Jones‘ Season 3 to look forward to later this year.

Here’s the original synopsis for Season 1 of ‘The Punisher:’

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle
(Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld.
Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices
that affect more than his family alone.
