Black Tapes

The studio is developing the new series by ‘Emerald City’ co-creator Matthew Arnold, along with the podcast creators Paul Bae and Terry Miles, Entertainment 360 and Universal TV. Arnold, Bae, and Miles will be writing and producing this adaptation which follows a journalist’s investigations of supernatural mysteries which a skeptical scientist has caught on tape.

Think of it as a bit of ‘The X-Files’ without any government oversight of those who are doing the investigations. These two are going to explore “the literal and figurative ghosts that haunt them both” in this upcoming weekly series.

This is a fictional story which, on the podcast, is narrated to sound like a nonfiction tale in the way that ‘Serial’ has been. It isn’t clear how the TV show will handle it, but the Podcast begins with an “evangelical skeptic” Dr. Richard Strand who is trying to prove every major supernatural claim that he can. Alex Reagan starts to become interested in these cases, and she begins to explore them with the mysterious Dr. Strand.

The show has been downloaded over 41.5 million times and is often in the top 10 charts across America, so if you listen to podcasts, there is a good chance that you’ve at least heard of this one. A new episode hasn’t been released in over a year, and it will be curious to see if it picks back up prior to the show’s release.
