Ludi Lin

Ludi Lin wants to stay in the world of cinematic superheroes.  He has thrown his name out as a contender to play the Marvel character ‘Shang-Chi, the Master of Kung Fu’.  It was revealed just weeks ago that Marvel was fast-tracking a film featuring this character for its Phase 4, with Asian American writer Dave Callaham attached to pen the script.  Marvel Studios is said to be seeking an Asian or Asian American director to helm the project.

Lin first gained mass notice when he portrayed Zack, the Black Power Ranger in Lionsgate’s adaptation ‘Saban’s Power Rangers’.  It was hoped that this film would create a new franchise, but it wasn’t successful enough to warrant sequels.  Lin can be seen in the new superhero movie ‘Aquaman’ as the warrior Murk.  But now, it seems that Lin wants a super starring role, in ‘Shang-Chi’.

“It’s definitely something I want to do. To do an Asian-centric superhero. To tell that story. I mean ideally, I’d like to design my own superhero, make my own creation. But I think the Marvel world is pretty incredible as well. Especially in honor of Stan Lee, the person who created this entire, I mean like an entire universe. You know what I mean? It’s pretty incredible. And I think it would be great because it would take another big step towards representation.”

In the comics, for most of his existence, Shang-Chi was a human martial artist, with no superpowers.  However, in recent years, he was given the ability to create duplicates of himself.

Marvel was inspired to push this character into the films after ‘Black Panther’ proved so successful earlier this year.

Lin is currently promoting ‘Aquaman’, but is also shooting the Chinese film ‘Summer Knight’, which does not have a release date at this time.

What do you think?  Would Ludi Lin make a good Shang-Chi?
