Carl Weathers was rumored to have been cast in the upcoming Disney+ ‘Star Wars’ series ‘The Mandalorian’, created and overseen by Jon Favreau, about a month ago.  However, this was unconfirmed until now.  Disney has issued a press release announcing the full cast, which includes confirmation of some actors that were rumored but unconfirmed, as well as a few brand new announcements.

As was expected, Pedro Pascal is the show’s headliner, “a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.”  Also confirmed were the previously reported Gina Carano, and Nick Nolte.  Among the new names are: Giancarlo Esposito from ‘Better Call Saul’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ among others; ‘Supernatural’ alum Emily Swallow, who also voices Lisa Tepes on the Netflix anime ‘Castlevania’; Omid Abtahi, who played Salim on ‘American Gods’; and the acclaimed director Werner Herzog, who also dabbles in acting.  He was last seen in his own film ‘Salt and Fire’ and made small appearances in ‘Jack Reacher’ and on ‘Parks and Recreation’.

As Favreau said:

“We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to.”

It has also been revealed that the show is set in the Outer Rim, after ‘Return of the Jedi’, in an area where the locals either don’t know that the Empire has fallen or just don’t care.

‘The Mandalorian’ is expected to be available when Disney+ launches in the fall of next year.
