James Cameron And Tom Cruise Almost Shot A Film Together... In Space

We know that Tom Cruise loves doing his own stunts and has a penchant for doing science fiction movies and one film would have topped all of his prior works. Knowing that James Cameron also loves going big, it sounds like the two had been on the verge of teaming up to bring us a film that would have been beyond anything you could have imagined. The iconic director and infamous movie star almost ended up shooting a movie together, in space.

The idea was to shoot the film on the International Space Station though it never came to fruition. While the director didn’t share why the movie idea was scrubbed, he did reveal:

“I actually talked to [Cruise] about doing a space film in space, about 15 years ago. I had a contract with the Russians in 2000 to go to the International Space Station and shoot a high-end 3D documentary there. And I thought, ‘Shit, man, we should just make a feature.’ I said, ‘Tom, you and I, we’ll get two seats on the Soyuz, but somebody’s gotta train us as engineers.’ Tom said, ‘No problem, I’ll train as an engineer.’ We had some ideas for the story, but it was still conceptual.”

It is unfortunate that the two weren’t able to take this story from concept to screen as this would have topped every other stunt which Tom Cruise had done so far. From car crashes to scaling a skyscraper and beyond ,we’ve seen Cruise do a lot of crazy things over the years but filming a feature film literally in space likely would have topped it all.

Would you have been curious to see a Tom Cruise movie take place on the International Space Station? Do you think they would have come up with something crazy for the actor to do or would any actual stunts have been done back on Earth? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
