Game Of Spin-Offs? George R.R. Martin Has Another Idea For A Show

It’s a good thing that George R.R. Martin doesn’t have another book to write as not only is he busy with the current ‘Game of Thrones‘ spin-off for HBO but the famed author has revealed another idea for a series. While he has been willing to dish a few details about the series which isn’t yet called “The Long Night,” Martin has a new idea which he was open to talking about. Instead of a prequel series, Martin would love to have viewers see how the commoners of Westeros lived on a daily basis and have it set during the same period as ‘Game of Thrones.’

In an age where news is hard to come by for royalty let alone to standard citizens, it would be interesting to see how the average people who lived in Westeros were able to get news of the realm and what they thought about the ruling houses while they went about their daily lives.

Martin shared the following about his idea:

“Hamlet is going on in the background, but it’s all about Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. I wanted to do a show called Spear Carriers, which would actually be set during the events of Game of Thrones, but it wouldn’t be following Dany, Tyrion, and Jaime. They would all be there in the background like Hamlet.
It would be more like, ‘Here’s a story about a guy in the City Watch; here’s a story about a prostitute at one of Littlefinger’s brothels; here’s a story about a mummer who’s in town to do juggling and tricks.’ And they all get caught up in the events. I think that kind of show would be a lot of fun to do.

It would be a fun way to get an entirely different perspective in the world of ‘Game of Thrones’ which would also allow for some highly visible background cameos from actors who have died in the series over the years.

Unfortunately, ‘Spear Carriers’ isn’t currently in the pipeline:

“I haven’t been able to convince HBO that this is a good idea yet, but I would actually love to do something like that.”

As much as I’m excited to see the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel and someday read the end of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” I can’t help but think but think this show could be a great idea.

Are you thrilled about this new idea which George R.R. Martin has created? Do you feel that HBO might end up putting this one into production as well? Will “A Song of Ice and Fire” ever actually be completed? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
