Runaways Star Teases Second Season Plot Developments

When ‘Runaways’ debuted on Hulu last year, the first few two episodes presented what was, by and large, an impressively faithful adaptation of its comic book source material. Over the course of the first season, the show diverged rather markedly from the comic’s narrative arc, all while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original story. For the most part, these diversions came in the interest of fleshing out its characters, particularly the titular teens’ supervillain parents.

As the second season begins, the Runaways have finally, well, run away. And while we’ve heard that the show’s willingness to take the story in new directions will continue, particularly with regard to its portrayal of teen homelessness (which is said to be more grounded than in the comic), we also know that there are some elements that remain the same.

Chief among those is the Pride’s determination to track down their now-rogue children. And in the course of a recent interview with HuluWatcher, actress Angel Parker – who plays Alex Wilder’s mother Catherine in the series – hinted at the lengths her character, in particular, will go to in pursuit of this goal, saying that Catherine “makes some decisions that can’t be taken back.” Asked about things that might surprise fans, Parker elaborated:

“They’ll be shocked to see how far Catherine will go to bring Alex home. She doesn’t have many options in season two. All of the regret and conflict is gone. Now, she has one goal, and that’s getting Alex back. And she’ll make that happen by any means necessary.”

This degree of single-minded determination has the potential to create conflict even within the Pride. As we saw in the first season, they aren’t always the most unified group to begin with. On top of that, while they’re not exactly what you’d call good people, they are definitely more nuanced than in the comics, which presented the Pride more as hardened criminals in line with the supervillain archetypes they were meant to represent.
