Robert Zemeckis Bios Tom Hanks

After far too long of a wait, Robert Zemeckis (‘Back to the Future’,’Contact’) is returning to bring us a science fiction feature film in ‘Bios.’ The producer is opening up a bit about the film and has let us know that Tom Hanks (‘Big’,’Inferno’) has been cast in the central role! Hanks has long been one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood and genre work isn’t something he is known for which makes this an exciting prospect to see him tackle a new kind of role.

‘Bios’ is slated to begin filming in early 2019 and Zemeckis has shared an update:

“We’re producing a really magnificent science fiction project called Bios with Tom Hanks. It’s a really cool science-fiction story. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic world, and Tom Hanks may or may not be the last human survivor on the planet.”

It should be noted that the details floating around about the film previously described it as, “On a post-apocalyptic earth, a robot, built to protect the life of his dying creator’s beloved dog, learns about life, love, friendship and what it means to be human.” This would likely put Hanks in the role of the dying creator of the robot mentioned above. Zemeckis previously worked with Hanks when directing the classics ‘Forrest Gump’ in 1994, ‘Cast Away’ in 2000, and ‘The Polar Express’ in 2009.

With working with Hanks on all of these films, Zemeckis shared:

“We have a terrific shorthand. When you work with someone like Tom for so long and on so many things you can’t help but have a shorthand when you’re doing things. We’re always kicking around ideas for movies and stories and things to do. This time I’m not directing, I’m producing, so that’s different. The director is Miguel Sapochnik. He’s a great guy, and it’s going to be awesome. It’s a really, really good project.”

Zemeckis and Hanks aren’t the only major names attached to this film either as it is being brought to us by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment based on a script which was penned by Craig Luck (‘Solo: A Star Wars Movie‘) and Ivor Powell (‘Blade Runner‘). Of the movie, Spielberg previously described the movie as:

“An original, emotionally stirring tale that at its core is very much an Amblin movie. No one more perfect to embody this story about the meaning of being human than Tom Hanks.”

I think it would be hard to argue that from what we know of the actor.
