batman elseworlds

Despite fans having asked for YEARS to finally see an appearance by Batman in the CW’s Arrowverse, and the fact that both Batwoman and Gotham city will be appearing in this year’s crossover event, it seems that does not mean we will actually be seeing the Dark Knight himself. The news was confirmed for fans recently by executive producer Marc Guggenheim, who cleared it up for everyone on Twitter with the following post:

Fans had really thought this might be the year, especially since the plotline is rumored to be centered around some famous DC comics including ‘Elseworlds’ and ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths,’ both of which feature Batman heavily. Not to mention the fact that Superman will be directly involved in this year’s crossover event, and it looks like he may be going dark for part of it. And everyone knows no one is better equipped to deal with a dark Superman than Batman, though I suppose Supergirl dealt with a brainwashed Superman just fine on her own series a few years back, so they may figure the Girl of Steel, along with the Flash and the Green Arrow have got it covered.

Regardless of whether or not Batman is involved, this year’s crossover event is still rumored to be the best one yet, at least according to star Stephen Amell, who had a lot to say on the topic recently:

“The crossover is fucking bananas. It’s crazy… I think that this will be the best crossover event that we do. And not just the best but the best by a really, really wide margin. And I think that last year was fantastic…Crisis on Earth X’, I think that’s what it was called, that was pretty crazy and getting to play doppelgängers was pretty crazy. When Greg Berlanti first talked to me about why he wanted to do crossovers, it was because it’s for the fans. It’s so people can watch characters and scenarios that combine their favorite things on TV or introduce them to new things on TV. But you also get this license to do things that we could never do in the vacuum — especially on Arrow — that we can never do in the vacuum of just our show.”

What are your thoughts on not seeing Batman this year, but still getting Gotham City and Batwoman? Do you think we will ever see Bruce Wayne or the Dark Knight in the Arrowverse?
