crimes of grindelwald

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ opens in theaters in just a few days. The second installment of the five-movie franchise promises to dive deeper into the conflict between Newt Scamanders and villain Gellert Grindelwald. However, a new trailer for the film shifts the focus a bit and features a duel between the brothers Scamander!

Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and the relationship with his brother Theseus (Callum Turner) will also play into the storyline, and from the footage, it doesn’t seem like they are in a good place.

It is unclear where in the film the footage from the new clip happens, but it seems like Newt and his right-hand Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) have found themselves somewhere they shouldn’t be, as Theseus quickly pursues the pair. He is outmatched by their magic, however, and becomes bound by a spell cast by the two wizards.

It remains to be seen how Theseus will factor into the overall plot of ‘Crimes of Grindelwald.’  His relationship with his brother is strained, as the two shared a romantic interest in Leta Lestrange (Zoe Kravitz). Newt and Leta attended Hogwarts together. When he covered for something Leta did, Newt became an outcast. Things become more awkward as Leta is engaged to Theseus in the film.

While the brothers certainly seem to have a complicated history to work out, they should ultimately end up on the same side, as the first trailer for ‘Crimes of Grindelwald’ features the two fighting alongside each other. But, we know how quickly things can change in the wizarding universe!
