Casting has been announced for HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ prequel series, which may or may not be called ‘The Long Night,’ and now George R.R. Martin is dropping a few hints as to what could happen in another show. There were initially five spinoffs in development and while some of those have already been scrubbed, it doesn’t seem like they all have been.
There was no news as to when we could read the next installment of “A Song of Ice and Fire” but Martin did hint that HBO is going to be bringing us another prequel:
“Meanwhile, there are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could. The readers among you might want to grab a copy of Fire & Blood when it is released on November 20, though.”
It sounds like ‘Fire & Blood’ could be leading into one of the other active projects. We know that the story within is the first of a two-part collection which will tell the history of the House Targaryen in Westeros beginning with Aegon the Conqueror arriving at Dragonstone. It will also include new details of the Doom of Valyria, “the Dance with Dragons” which is the Targaryen civil war, how Aegon came to take over the seven kingdoms, and what happened when Maegor the Cruel ruled them.
Fans of the House Targaryen would be thrilled to see this show go into production which could expand on any of these stories and deliver a long-running series.
