Bubba Ho-Tep

The Man With The Chin is going to be pulling double duty in an upcoming comic as two of Bruce Campbell‘s most iconic roles are coming together in ‘Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep.’ The book is coming from Dynamite Entertainment in 2019 and being put together by creators Scott Duvall and Vincenzo Federici. In it, we’ll see Ash and an elderly Elvis coming together for “a series of universe-spanning events that involve an Elvis jumpsuit with special time-travel abilities, a trip to ‘70s Vegas, plus the reveal of an evil new Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon Ho-Tep.”

I can’t think of a single fan of Campbell’s B-Movie stardom who couldn’t get behind this project.

According to Duvall:

“Being a huge fan of the character of Ash, and by extension, actor Bruce Campbell, I was instantly drawn to the movie Bubba Ho-Tep, based on an original story by the great Joe R. Lansdale, and starring Campbell as Elvis. Immediately upon release, I added it to my DVD collection, and I would group it with Army of Darkness because it felt like a companion piece to it. Often viewing them in close succession, I knew the Ash and Elvis team-up would go together like peanut butter and banana. These two worlds already fit so well together in tone; it made it totally plausible that they could co-exist on the same plane. Wanting to see what it would be like if Ash and Elvis interact is a big part of what sparked this, and so I’m thrilled we’ll get to finally see that in these pages.”

The elderly Elvis in ‘Bubba Ho-Tep’ is so similar to what you would imagine an elderly Ash to end up being that you can’t help but look forward to this one. According to ‘Bubba Ho-Tep’ creator Joe R. Lansdale:

“Script and art for the first issue of Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep are as delicious as a fried peanut butter and ‘nanner sandwich. I’m as excited as if I had good sense and owned Ft. Knox. Can’t wait!”

We’ll see the first issue being released with multiple covers by Robert Hack, Carlos Gomez, Emma Kubert, Diego Galindo, and Tom Mandrake in February of 2019!
