LeBron James

Following the success this weekend of ‘Halloween’, it’s no wonder that others in Hollywood are looking to reboot classic slasher flicks.  The latest is ‘Friday the 13th’.  Even though it was already rebooted in 2009, a new version is moving forward at Vertigo Entertainment, with a very unexpected player attached to produce– LeBron James.

James tweeted the news of his involvement, stating that ‘Friday the 13th’ and its lead stalker, Jason Voorhees was “one of my favorites.”:

James has also released a pair of ‘Friday the 13th’ Nikes, complete with simulated blood spatter, through his signature line.  So clearly he is a fan, so his involvement looks to be a positive thing.

James has actually been quite prolific, producing numerous projects through his SpringHill Entertainment, mainly reality, documentary, and competition shows or films, although he also produced the scripted drama ‘Survivor’s Remorse’, which ran for four seasons on Starz.  He is also attached as executive producer of the upcoming reboot of ‘Space Jam’, in which he will also star.  He made a major splash in front of the camera in 2015, starring as himself in the Amy Schumer-led romantic comedy ‘Trainwreck’.

Vertigo Entertainment is a leader in the field of horror movies, having been responsible for ‘It: Chapter One’ and ‘Two’, ‘The Ring’, ‘The Strangers’ and ‘The Grudge’.

Recently, a U.S. District Court Judge ruled in favor of Victor Miller, the original writer of ‘Friday the 13th’, granting him the rights to the characters and locations (i.e. Camp Crystal Lake) in the original.  Miller proved victorious over Horror, Inc., however, they are appealing the decision.

Another reboot of ‘Friday the 13th’ had been in the works, but the project fell apart last year.

This reboot (or whatever) of ‘Friday the 13th’ appears to be in the earliest stages of development, so check back for any news.
