Add ‘God Country’ as the next comic to be turned into a feature film. The six-issue series released through Image Comics was developed by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw and quickly became a fan-favorite. Cates will be adapting his comics into a screenplay though at this time no director has been attached to the film.

The creator is clearly excited about this upcoming adaptation and you can feel the emotion coming from his tweet announcing the project:

If you’re unfamiliar with the comic be prepared to be transported to Texas and follow an elderly man named Emmett Quinlan. Quinlan has dementia and has lost his wife and the love of his life. However, he stumbles across a sword during the eye of a tornado, and everything is changed. Not only is Quinlan cured of the disease which has been plaguing his mind but he is suddenly back to full health. On top of everything else, with this weapon in hand he can remember every moment of his life in crystal clarity including every moment with his wife. The return of his health also allows Quinlan to spend time with his granddaughter.

Comics these days don’t tend to enjoy giving us just a pleasant ride, though, and it looks like the original owner of the sword wants it back. It also happens that the owner is a god and isn’t willing to just let the sword go lightly. Emmett must do everything in his newfound power to protect not only his family and himself but the entire state of Texas as well.
