Avi Arad Morbius

During the ‘Venom’ press junket it was revealed by Sony producer Avi Arad exactly why the studio is so excited to bring ‘Morbius‘ to life in a live-action adaptation of the comic. Some of the ideas for the film make sense and will likely resonate with fans. One thing that many might end up worried about is the casting of Jared Leto as the main character.

Of course, how could Leto being painted white, likely walking around shirtless, and wearing teeth prosthetics possibly not resonate with fans?

Wait, don’t answer that.

All joking aside, Arad shared that Morbius is one of his favorite characters:

“We are excited about Morbius. Morbius was always one of my favorite characters. I love the story about the healer that becomes a killer, and how do you deal with it.”

In this outing of a comic book franchise, we’ll see Leto playing a hero instead of a villain. As a healer, he will try to cure the disease which he is suffering from, and things go terribly wrong. It ends up leaving him as a living vampire. Wait, did I say he was a hero? Well, when he isn’t busy draining the life out of those which he needs to feed off of.

It has been rumored that ‘Morbius’ will go into production this November and if that proves to be true we should be hearing a slew of new details likely popping up over the next month. Unless of course ‘Venom’ bombs at the box office and Sony pulls the franchise much as Universal did with their “Dark Universe” after ‘The Mummy‘ failed to perform.

Sony might be excited for ‘Morbius,’ but the real question is, do you think that Sony can pull the movie off? Will this be a linchpin in their non-Spider-Man cinematic universe? Was Jared Leto the right choice to cast to play the living vampire? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
