Eli Roth History Of HorrorWe’ve previously seen an AMC Visionaries series based on science fiction, and now the network is giving us something a bit darker with ‘Eli Roth’s History of Horror.’ This new one-hour series is slated to kick off in October, just in time for Halloween! The director who has given us films such as ‘Hostel’ and most recently ‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls‘ has a seven-episode series that delves into the world of horror. We’ll see a people who work in the horror genre behind and in front of the camera talk about the direction the genre is going and how it has evolved over the years.

As AMC is the home of ‘The Walking Dead,’ it should come as no surprise that the first episode will focus on zombies though sadly the late George A. Romero won’t be able to share any new insights on the show. I’m sure there will be a spotlight on his work from those who are making appearances. As to the second episode, they’ll be diving head first into slasher films which are responsible for the most well-known horror icons to date.

To really get the details though, AMC has released an official synopsis which shares some of the major names who will appear on the series:

Executive produced by award-winning horror film director, writer, producer and actor, Eli Roth (“Cabin Fever,” “Hostel”), the documentary series brings together the masters of horror – the storytellers and stars who define the genre – to explore its biggest themes and reveal the inspirations and struggles behind its past and present.

Each one-hour episode will take viewers on a chilling exploration of how horror has evolved through the eras and impacted society, as well as why loyal fans remain addicted to fear. The series features A-list storytellers including Stephen King, Quentin Tarantino, Jordan Peele, Jason Blum, Robert Englund, Linda Blair, Tippi Hedren, Rob Zombie, Haley Joel Osment, Jack Black, John Landis, Jamie Lee Curtis, Elijah Wood, Slash, Catherine Hardwicke, Norman Reedus among many others.

It looks as fun as it sounds. If you were a fan of AMC’s previous AMC Visionaries series which shined a spotlight on science fiction, this looks to be just as entertaining. The series will also dive into some of the most well-known horror films which have been released over the years including the likes of ‘Psycho,’ ‘The Shining,’ ‘Get Out‘ ‘Interview With The Vampire,’ ‘Night of the Living Dead.’
