While Bruce Campbell is retired from playing Ash in the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise he doesn’t feel that the character needs to go away. The actor not only supports the idea of a younger actor taking on his iconic role but has a few ideas of how to continue on the franchise. While fans who have followed Campbell since 1981’s ‘The Evil Dead’ might take offense at this, the actor does bring up some fantastic points on how things could currently move forward.
It should be noted that this isn’t the first time the star has stated that he would be okay with the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise continuing without him.
First, he shares that he is all for another take on his iconic role:
I’d be perfectly fine if they find some young Ash, do some new incarnation, let some other poor bastard get covered in blood. It’s all good.”
We know from “Army of Darkness’ that time travel is possible which could be why we get a younger take on the character moving forward, but how would he fit into the overall scheme of things? Campbell has an interesting idea there as well:
“I hope there are very many variations of Evil Dead. You’ve got the leftover characters from the series, you’ve got the characters from the remake that we did a few years ago. You can intersect universes.”
A crossover from the surviving cast from ‘Ash vs Evil Dead‘ as well as the 2013 release of Fede Alvarez’s ‘Evil Dead‘ remake which could serve as a parallel universe that sees the two come together could be fun. In fact, the cast from the series could see Campbell’s take die and try to find some other way to save the world or bring Ash back to life which could draw alternate timelines into the mix that introduces us to a new Ash as well as bringing in Jane Levy’s Mia into the mix.
With how the rights for the various aspects of the franchise currently stand there is no way to know if this could even happen let alone if the cast and crew would want to pursue such an idea.
If Ash had to be re-cast moving forward, would you love to see the various outlets of the franchise come together to make it happen or would you prefer that they start fresh? Should the series stay dead with the cancellation of ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
