HBO has done it again! They have released a new spot for all of their upcoming content in 2019, making sure to call out that there is “new ‘Game Of Thrones’ footage within and making everyone on the internet super-excited! Only for them to click on the video and realize that the whole video is a 1 minute and 40 second highlight reel of all of HBO’s upcoming content for 2019 (minus Damon Lindelof’s ‘Watchmen’ for some reason), with ONE VERY brief new shot from ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 mixed in around 01:11, and lot of footage from ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7. So the shot in question has Sansa and Jon Snow reunited ostensibly at Winterfell once more, which is ironic because when HBO pulled this stunt last season it was another shot of Jon Snow and Sansa reuniting at Winterfell, so they have essentially teased us two years in a row with a very similar shot. And while yes, we are incredibly excited for ‘Game of Thrones,’ it is almost cruel for the network to toy with us this way when we have been waiting (and will continue to wait) an insanely long time to see that final season, and most fans have been dying to see clips or a trailer from the final season for MONTHS now.
Our only hope is that this is a sign that a trailer might actually be in the works, as the official Season 7 trailer was preceded by an HBO sizzle reel similar to this by about a month, so maybe we will get lucky and see a trailer for ‘Game of Thrones’ season drop sometime in late September/ early October. Here’s hoping that is not just a pipe dream.
