Joss Whedon might be done with directing ensemble pieces set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but has previously stated that he’d be willing to work with Marvel Studios again on a smaller scale. Now he is sharing that the production company is “brilliant” with how it tackles movies. Not only does the famed director share his love for the studio, but he also has opted to express why he is so enthusiastic as to how the company puts together movies.

According to Whedon:

“Something Marvel does that is brilliant and it applies to all of us is that nobody here necessarily had the resume to make the next big action film. They were interested in having that person speak they weren’t interested in saying, ‘look just do, just hit the marks.’ They wanted each one of us to bring ourselves to the movie, and you can tell, as much as there’s a throughline in Marvel, you can definitely tell who’s who and what they constantly want to talk about.”

While the idea that fans have of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they have an overall plan which everyone must adhere to while telling their own story, directors including the Russo Brothers, Peyton Reed, Ryan Coogler, Jon Favreau, Taika Waititi, and James Gunn have all insisted that this isn’t the case at all. Every director has shared that Marvel Studios has been extremely open as to how the movies can be put together for the final cut.

We do know that this isn’t always the case for every detail though as Whedon himself has spoken up in the past about a scene which he had to cut from ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ Still, for the most part, it does seem as if the studio is open for creators to put their unique touch on the superheroes that they’re working on.

Do you love that Marvel Studios is so open with their directors and probably only providing a few key points here and there? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
