The Flash

If you feel that ‘The Flash‘ has been wasting Elongated Man’s talents so far then you’ll be happy to hear that on the fifth season that is all set to change! We were introduced to Hartley Sawyer’s Ralph Dibny last season, and while they did a lot with his character of Elongated Man, much of his past fell to the wayside. This disgraced cop is a private investigator who didn’t have a chance to show off his detective skills, and that is going to be changing.

Showrunner Todd Helbing opened up as to how we would see not only more of his powers being shown off as comic book accurate but that his detective skills would be on full display:

“Ralph is going to be doing a lot more detecting this year than he did last season, and I think the description of Elongated Man was that he has the detective skills that rivals Batman’s. So, we want to get him on his journey in that regard this season.”

Helbing has been talking about Elongated Man’s detective abilities even before the Season 4 finale dropped where he had previously said that “From day one, that was sort of the plan that we came up with. Ralph’s powers are so unique. In the comics, there’s a lot of things we haven’t done yet with Ralph Dibny. We have a lot of investigative stories to tell; we obviously want to get to Sue Dibny at some point. So, it just didn’t feel from the beginning that we could tell his story in one episode, and we all fell in love with Hartley literally from the moment we met with him, and we knew we wanted to have him part of the show moving forward.”

With Sawyer now a series regular in the upcoming season it looks like they’ll have plenty of chances to show him solving a case. It should be interesting to see which case or cases they’ll have him working on.
