Ian Somerhalder V-Wars

‘The Vampire Diaries’ may be over, but Ian Somerhalder, who played Damon Salvatore, the bad boy with a heart of gold, just can’t seem escape blood-suckers.  At least he isn’t playing one this time… or is that a good thing?

Netflix is adapting Jonathan Maberry’s IDW anthology comic book ‘V-Wars’ and Somerhalder plays the lead, Doctor Luther Swann, whose best friend Michael Fayne (played by Adrian Holmes) becomes infected with a mysterious disease that was released by the melting of the polar ice caps, which forces him to feed on humans to survive.  In no time, the plague spreads with more and more people turning and soon, the nation is in shambles as humans fight for survival against these thirsty predators.  In the chaos, Fayne rises to become the leader of the vampires.  Swann finds himself caught in the middle of the conflict, as he is still human but holds out hope that he can somehow find a way to save Fayne.

Netflix ordered a first season straight to series, consisting of ten episodes.  While it’s unknown when the show will become available, but it is now in production as Somerholder teased with a selfie on Instagram:

Looks like this war is getting bloody!  Which isn’t a good thing, considering.

‘V-Wars’ was developed for television by William Laurin and Glenn Davis, who will serve as showrunners.  Joining Somerhalder and Holmes are Jacky Lai as Kaylee Vo, Peter Outerbridge as Calix Niklos, Laura Vandervoort as Mila, Kyle Breitkopf as Dez and Kimberly-Sue Murray as Danika.  Brad Turner (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’) directs the pilot episode and will serve as an executive producer along with High Park Entertainment’s Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden, IDW Entertainment’s David Ozer and Ted Adams and Marada Pictures’ James Gibb.
