PennyworthEPIX is putting ‘Pennyworth‘ into production on November 21st, 2018, which is their prequel story that puts a focus on a young Alfred Pennyworth. Long before he was a butler to Batman, a young Master Bruce, and Bruce’s parents, we’ve known that Alfred was a soldier and this new series is set to shine a light on those years of his life. Yes, we’re going back to London in the 1960s in this 10-episode series which was officially ordered in May as a straight-to-series show. Filming is slated to take seven months and wrap in June.

We will see Thomas Wayne introduced in the series as this former British SAS soldier forms a secret company that works with the most influential citizen of Gotham.

Previously of the show, EPIX president Michael Wright has stated:

“As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series. We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny — along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon — on this fantastic origin story.”

Bruno Heller who was the showrunner on ‘Gotham’ will produce the series with Danny Cannon as a co-producer. They’ve also previously shared that:

“Michael and his colleagues have created the perfect venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on Pennyworth are thrilled to be on the Epix slate.”

With ‘Gotham‘ coming to an end on Fox after its upcoming fifth and final season, this will allow DC to still have two prequel series in production if you count Syfy’s ‘Krypton.’
