Tom Payne The Walking Dead

Just as in ‘The Walking Dead‘ comics, we can expect a time jump after “All Out War,” and now we’ve learned just how far that jump into the future will be. The news came from ‘Talking Dead’ this last Saturday Night where actor Tom Payne who plays Jesus on the show has shared that the ninth season of the show will pick up a year-and-a-half after the season 8 finale.

Angela Kang who is the new showrunner for AMC’s smash hit series confirmed that there would be a time jump on the Kick-Ass Women of AMC panel a couple of months ago but wouldn’t say by how much. With this being the last season of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes that means they’re going to be ramping up his character to depart the series.

However, that isn’t what Payne focuses on as he states:

“Everyone has to go back to basics. Farmers are really useful, and Hilltop, that was their whole deal. They were growing stuff and tending the farm animals, and so that community is maybe doing better than other communities.”

The comics had seen a two-year jump after “All Out War” concluded in issue #126 and returned in “A New Beginning” in the following issue. We’ll be seeing similar plot points likely showing up though with Carl Grimes out of the picture and not everyone happy that Negan has been allowed to live, there will be some internal discord among these surviving communities.

Are you looking forward to the return of ‘The Walking Dead’? Do you think that a year and a half was enough of a time jump? How do you think the show will write off Rick Grimes from the series? Share your thoughts below!

‘The Walking Dead’ returns to infect AMC with a ninth season on Sunday, October 7th, 2018!
