From a Buick 8Stephen King fans have a new reason to rejoice as ‘From a Buick 8’ is being turned into a feature film! This is one of King’s novels which have yet to be translated to the big screen so it’s exciting that this isn’t a reboot announcement. The film will be based on the 2002 novel that deals with a car that has ties to another dimension.

At this time there are no casting announcements for the movie but William Brent Bell (‘The Boy’) is set to direct the adaptation. On the production end will be Hyde Park and ImageNation Abu Dhabi.

This novel is nothing like the killer car in Christine but has consequences that are even worse for those around it.

The synopsis of the novel describes it as:

Since 1979, the state police of Troop D in rural Pennsylvania have kept a secret in the shed out behind the barracks. Ennis Rafferty and Curtis Wilcox had answered a strange call just down the road and came back with an abandoned 1953 Buick Roadmaster. Curt Wilcox knew old cars, and this one was…just wrong. As it turned out, the Buick 8 was worse than dangerous—and the members of Troop D decided that it would be better if the public never found out about it. Now, more than twenty years later, Curt’s son Ned starts hanging around the barracks and is allowed into the Troop D family. And one day he discovers the family secret—a mystery that begins to stir once more, not only in the minds and hearts of these veteran troopers but out in the shed as well, for there’s more power under the hood than anyone can handle….

Yes, this Buick isn’t a killer car but a doorway to another dimension. What comes crawling out of it isn’t pleasant for those who live in this Pennsylvania town either.

This won’t be the first time that ‘From a Buick 8’ tried to make it onto the big screen. At one point the late George A. Romero was going to try to create it and when he decided against it, Tobe Hooper took over the project. Due to financial restraints, it never saw the light of day.

This project is joining a slew of others based on King’s work which has been announced this year such as ‘Doctor Sleep,’ ‘The Bone Church,’ ‘The Stand,’ ‘The Long Walk,’ ‘In The Tall Grass,’ ‘The Boogeyman,’ ‘Firestarter,’ and more!
