Fans of the 90’s era ‘Prophet’ which Rob Liefeld introduced in ‘Youngblood’ should be thrilled that it has been optioned for a film! Studio 8 wants to turn this iconic character into a cinematic franchise though it isn’t clear if they want just to use Prophet or tie it into Liefeld’s other Image Comics creations as well.

With the success of ‘Deadpool,’ it isn’t too surprising to see more of Liefeld’s creations starting to get optioned. If anything, it is surprising that it has taken this long.

Liefeld will be producing the film with Adrian Askarieh, and Brooklyn Weaver. At this time we also know that John Hyde and Terissa Kelton are also involved and that John Graham and Guy Danella will be running things on Studio 8’s side of things.

For those unfamiliar with John Prophet, he is a World War II super soldier that was a bit of a mix of Captain America and The Winter Soldier. He was put in a cryogenic freeze to be ready for a mission that hasn’t yet come and is now trying to finish that mission even though it doesn’t exist.

According to Liefeld:

“We’re taking the best of Prophet to create the best cinematic version of Prophet that we can. He’s very pure in his motives to help out his family and ends up becoming something completely different.”

As to why it has taken so long, Liefeld claims that other studios have approached him in the past, but only Studio 8 was able to woo him:

“They did their homework, and not only did they do homework, they are true fans.”

That is something which fans of anything have source material is always happy to hear. It sounds as if this will be more of a direct adaptation of the comics instead of just using them as an inspiration.
