Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg isn’t just a movie star but a major geek so it might come as a surprise that some of the films which put his name on the map didn’t bring him any joy. While he got his big break into audiences hearts in the United States with the 2004 release of ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ more of his exposure has been through the “Mission: Impossible” and “Star Trek” films.

For a geek and an actor, being able to take on this kind of roles sound like a dream come true that would have made him happy. That wasn’t the case.

In fact, he was suffering from depression and as Pegg puts it:

“I would feel like — I’m in a film with Tom Cruise, I’ve got the part of Scotty in Star Trek. This should be making me feel happy. But it wasn’t.”

Not only did he suffer from depression but he felt that the route to deal with it was to self-medicate with alcohol. By the time that ‘Mission: Impossible III’ was being filmed Pegg had become an alcoholic. This lasted for quite some time, and it wasn’t until ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ was released that he started getting help.

For those who like to see this change in Pegg, it is said that watching ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ with this in mind you can see the actor looking physically better by the time the credits roll.

Pegg worked hard at keeping his problems a secret and even went to court in order for his stint in recovery from getting to the press but these days he isn’t ashamed of his problems. Now, he is opening up to them and hopes that by getting help he can inspire others who suffer from their own demons to reach out as well.

Personally, I’m glad to hear that Pegg is in a better place these days.
