Lewis Tan

A few weeks ago, ‘Into the Badlands’ star Lewis Tan posted a picture of himself on Twitter after taking a “great meeting” with DC Entertainment, which got fans speculating about whether or not Tan was in the running star in an upcoming DC production.  In the photo, it is visible that he is holding a ‘Batman’ graphic novel among others.

Tan’s father brought his family to the U.S. in the late ’80s when he landed the role of one of The Joker’s (Jack Nicholson) goons in Tim Burton’s 1989 blockbuster ‘Batman’.  Could Tan be bringing things full circle by playing the Dark Knight himself in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’?

Another choice is ‘Nightwing’, who will be the subject of a film directed by Chris McKay.  Tan has actually lobbied for that role online and fans have supported this idea.

While appearing at the Saturn Awards, Tan paused to discuss playing Dick Grayson:

“I know Chris McKay wants a martial artist, right, so that’s out there. He’s following me on Twitter, you know…there’s a lot of good juju vibes out there for that. Nothing that I can say that is confirmed. This is a project that he’s still developing and I sat down with DC, with some of the executives at DC, and they’re big fans, I’m a big fan, obviously. My father came to America, because of Batman and, you know, I definitely want to see that come full circle and give back. I’m not trading in my Marvel roots, because they started me, but DC started my dad, so it would be nice to go over there and play around and find the right thing. So we’re looking for the right thing and there were a lot of different talks and Nightwing was one of those that were mentioned, so we’ll see.”

He then took to Twitter to clarify his statement, saying that he had not met with DC to specifically discuss ‘Nightwing’.

Tan had been up for the role of ‘Iron Fist’ but that role went to Finn Jones.  (Tan did appear on the show in a smaller role.)  He finally got to play a superhero, as Shatterstar in ‘Deadpool 2’.  But it seems that his first headlining superhero gig may be in a DC project.

Nothing is definite, though and usually if an actor is up for a major role like this, it’s kept VERY hush hush until the studio is ready to make an announcement.  It wouldn’t be shocking to see Tan turn up in a DC role, but perhaps not as a headliner.

Who would you like to see Tan portray in the DC film universe?
