More ‘Aquaman’ news continues to surface as Entertainment Weekly plunges in to reveal never before seen images from Warner Brothers’ upcoming DC superhero movie.  The newest issue of the magazine arrives tomorrow and will sport two different covers– one that spotlights star Jason Momoa up close and another that reveals co-stars Nicole Kidman (Atlanna) and Amber Heard (Mera).  Now the magazine has unveiled a series of new photos that give a further taste of what fans can expect when this film finally makes its splash on the big screen.  Included are an additional look at Atlanna, the first ever reveal of Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s brother King Orm and the tease of a glimpse of Willem Dafoe as counselor Vulko.

But first, let’s start with the hero himself.  Momoa made a quick cameo in ‘Batman V Superman’ but fully debuted as Aquaman in ‘Justice League’ last year and along with The Flash, was one of the breakout characters.  In ‘Justice League’ he wore an ornate suit of armor, but in this scene, it is more low key in regular jeans.

Not all of the action will take place underwater.  In this scene, we see Aquaman with Mera on land in what appears to be Greece.  Mera is also holding what looks to be a treasure map.  Since the legend of Atlantis originated in Greek writings, it makes sense to tie them to that land.

This image of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta surfaced just a while ago, but it’s worth a second look (plus this image is of higher quality).  Here we see him working on his famous helmet.  Despite Black Manta being Aquaman’s arch-enemy in the comics, he won’t be the main villain in this film.

That honor goes to King Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother played by Patrick Wilson.  Here we can see Aquaman back in his suit of armor with Orm in his own.  Orm appears to have seized the throne of Atlantis after the death of their mother Atlanna.  In the comics, Orm goes by the name Ocean Master, but it’s unknown if he will do so in the movie.

Here we see James Wan setting up a shot in what looks to be a sunken pirate ship.  Aquaman and Mera are conferring with adviser Nuidis Vulko, played by Willem Dafoe, but unfortunately, he has his back to the camera.  Guess we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get a better look at Dafoe in this role.

Kidman adorns the cover, but here is another, closer shot of her in the role of Atlantean Queen Atlanna, holding a baby Arthur Curry, facing the boy’s father Tom Curry played by Temuera Morrison.

Do these images give you hope for ‘Aquaman’ and the future of the DC film universe?

‘Aquaman’ splashes into theaters on December 21, 2018.
