Castle Rock

There has been a rumor circling lately that Hulu’s ‘Castle Rock‘ was going to be an anthology horror series and Executive Producers Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason have just confirmed that. Not only that, but the duo have let a few other details slip about this Stephen King-themed show.

For those who have been living under a non-Castle Rock, the idea that drives the episodes is to take all of King’s iconic stories that take place in this town and find a way to tie them together. There will be multiple fan-favorite characters directly being used to tell these tales, likely with a few surprises along the way.

Shaw informed fans at the ATX Television Festival that the first season’s story would “run its course throughout the episodes” with the plan to have it be a “seasonal anthology.” This will allow for a slew of season-long stories that will both “honor the diversity of the kinds of stories Stephen King tells” and be an “advent calendar” of scary tales.

Because of this format, viewers will see the various characters “intersect in different ways” across time periods and seasons.

Fans know of this town through much of King’s work including ‘Cujo’, ‘The Dark Half’, ‘IT’, ‘Needful Things’, ‘The Body’, and ‘Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption.’ These tales have either taken place in Castle Rock or have mentioned it.

As to the series taking creative liberty with King’s work, Shaw shared that “[King] was flexible and gave us great license.”
