Hiro Murai is in talks with 20th Century Fox to direct his first feature film, ‘Man Alive’ an alien invasion story.  Murai has made a name for himself in recent years by working closely with Donald Glover, directing his acclaimed FX series ‘Atlanta’ and music videos for Glover’s alter ego Childish Gambino, including the recent, provocative ‘This Is America’.  Joe Greenberg wrote the original spec script for ‘Man Alive’, and has since been revised by David Robert Mitchell (‘It Follows’, ‘Under the Silver Lake’).

The film follows a man who believes he is the last man alive following an alien invasion and how he copes with the loneliness and isolation until he discovers he may not be alone.  Thanks to his close working relationship with Glover, it wouldn’t be too crazy to speculate that Murai could cast his friend in this.  Though Glover is a familiar face, he has yet to headline his own film and this could be the perfect vehicle for him.

Fox’s Matt Reilly is overseeing this film, while Noah Hawley, Leigh Kittay and John Cameron (26 Keys) and Chris Bender and Jake Weiner (Good Fear) are producing.

Murai has an established relationship with Hawley as well, having directed an episode of his FX series ‘Legion’.  He has also directed an episode of John Singleton’s series ‘Snowfall’ which also airs on FX.  In addition, Murai directed the Amazon original movie ‘Sea Oak’ starring Glenn Close and Jane Levy and two episodes of Bill Hader’s series ‘Barry’ which has gotten an exceptional response (98% on Rotten Tomatoes) and has been renewed for a second season.

In addition to Childish Gambino, Murai has directed music videos for Usher (featuring Pitbull), A Tribe Called Quest, Massive Attack (featuring Tricky), David Guetta (featuring Sia), Enrique Iglesias (featuring Nicole Scherzinger), B.O.B. featuring Hayley Williams, and Flying Lotus (featuring Kendrick Lamar).

No production or release date is scheduled at this time.
