luke cage

Netflix and Marvel TV just released the last trailer for the second season of ‘Luke Cage.’ The trailer shows that the second season will focus on Alfre Woodard’s Mariah Dillard, facing threats from the Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir), who is bulletproof just like Luke Cage. Cage himself is not featured much in this trailer, so it is unclear what role he will play in this next season.

Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner of the series, and Lucy Liu directed the first episode of the second season. Fans of the MCU may be disappointed as it seems Marvel TV has cooled off on the idea of a crossover. Unlike ‘The Avengers,’ miniseries ‘The Defenders’ was met with a lukewarm response, and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb has revealed that ‘Defenders’ probably will not be getting a second season.

Fans of Marvel TV know that ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 went on as if ‘The Defenders’ never happened, so it stands to reason that the second season of ‘Luke Cage’ may do the same.

Check out the new and final trailer for ‘Luke Cage’ season 2 trailer below! The series also stars Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Gabrielle Dennis, and Rosario Dawson. The 13 episode second season will premiere on Netflix on June 22nd.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, here is an official synopsis:

When a sabotaged experiment gives him super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive attempting to rebuild his life in Harlem and must soon confront his past and fight a battle for the heart of his city. After clearing his name, Cage becomes a hero and celebrity in Harlem, only to encounter a new threat that makes him confront the line between hero and villain.
